Working the way I do, I get through a lot of podcasts. One of my absolute favourites from almost the moment it was launched is My Dad Wrote a Porno. It’s pretty much what it says on the tin – host Jamie Morton discovered that his dad had written a porno and decided to read it to his friends James and Alice and release it as a podcast. This resulted in an actual physical book, a line of merchandising, rave reviews, a fan following containing people like Elijah Wood, Daisy Ridley, Michael Sheen and Tamal Ray (who was the one to clue me in on it in the first place) and a live show in the Sydney Opera House.
My Dad Wrote a Porno is a filthy, beautiful cultural phenomenon that has (allegedly) helped people have sex, make friends and probably feel a lot better about their anatomical knowledge. It also spurred a genuinely catchy pop song that may not make a lot of sense if you haven’t already listened to the podcast, but is hum friendly nonetheless.
Please listen to it so I have another Belinker to discuss this with.
